Bees in Your Garden
with Gisele Hardock, Master Beekeper
All about Bees!
Curious about bees? You've come to the right place! Learn everything you didn't know you didn't know about the fascinating world of the world's most important pollinators. We will take a deep dive into the lifecycles, habitats and behaviours of bees- from Bumblebees to Solitary Bees to Honeybees. But we won't just talk about it, there will be hands-on opportunities to check out a real bumblebee nest, take apart a honeybee hive, try on a beekeeper's suit and more. As an added bonus our last section will discuss what we can do to help pollinators in our gardens, yards and public spaces. You will come away with plant and resource lists specific to the Southern Alberta growing region to get you started in supporting the bee populations where you live.

Learn more about your Instructor: Gisele Hardock
Gisele Hardock is a Master Beekeeper, Educator, and Market Gardener who lives in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains of Alberta. She has been keeping bees since 2011, a hobby that began innocently enough but has flourished into a full-on insect obsession. An educator at heart, her big project is introducing people of all ages to the fascinating world of bees through her business, Hive and Harvest. She has taught preschool through high school students about bees in school classrooms, 4H, summer camps, daycares, homeschool groups, and online.
Throughout the winter, Gisele also works at Growing Roots Forest Play, a local Forest School, helping preschool-aged kids connect with the natural world, others, and themselves. In the spring and summer, she can be found keeping bees (of course!), growing vegetables and herbs in her permaculture greenhouses, and adventuring in the forest with her family.
