An Introduction to Livestock Guardian Dogs

with instructor Richmond Godfrey

Join us for a comprehensive on farm workshop on raising and keeping livestock guardian dogs, with a special focus on the Maremma breed (the breed we have here on our farm.)

This one day event will help enthusiasts better understand all aspects of raising, keeping, training and caring for these wonderful dogs. We will go through all LGD basics needed to equip participants with enough knowledge to raise their own livestock guardian dog.

Participants have opportunities to share their concerns and ask their questions of Mr. Godfrey, network and share insights with other participants.

Location: Early Dawn Farm

Date: February 25th, 2023

Price $65/participant

Guest Speaker

Richmond Godfrey

Richmond does not describe himself as an expert but does admit to having more than 30 years of practical experience with LGDs. This includes 16 years of contract grazing on the cutblocks in northern BC with 1800 sheep and diverse packs of LGDs, with abundant predators' and very little predation. Richmond has raised many litters and helped many ranchers and homesteaders get started with LGDs, from here to Haida Gwaii, the Bay of Fundy, and Tierra del Fuego. Richmond lives on a native coulee quarter on the Rosebud east of Carstairs, "semi-retired" with a flock of 100 Merino sheep, 5 La Mancha does, and 7 very happy hard-working Maremmas.
