Whether you're just starting with goats or looking to sharpen your skills, this full-day workshop offers a practical, grounded introduction to successful goat keeping. Learn from both a practicing veterinarian and an experienced homesteader in a collaborative, open-air setting.

  • Getting Started: Key principles of goat production & selection

  • Animal Handling: Safe techniques & essential equipment

  • Reproduction Basics: From breeding through kidding, including common challenges

  • Feeding & Nutrition: Daily needs and seasonal adjustments

  • Health Management: Preventative care and what supplies to keep on hand

 

What to Expect:

  • A tour of our micro-dairy milking parlour – discuss mastitis and more

  • Demonstrations: foot trimming, disbudding, kid castration

  • Time outdoors with the herd – dress for the weather

  • Insight from goat keepers with a variety of approaches and experiences

  • Q&A time with Dr. Sandra Bitner – a rare opportunity for direct veterinary input
